Huntington Learning Center’s Top 10 Test Prep Tips

By Huntington Learning Center

  1. Make a Preparation Plan: Create a plan that outlines what you need to study and when. Between 2 to 3 months before your test, break down your study time into manageable chunks and create a schedule that works for you.
  2. Start Early: Don’t wait until the last minute to start studying. We recommend you start preparing for the ACT/SAT the summer before your junior year, allowing more time to review the material, ask questions and practice problem-solving skills. Our accredited tutors are an excellent resource to work through skills and strategies specific to your needs.
  3. Identify Strengths and Weaknesses: Familiarize yourself with the concepts that will be covered. Ask yourself where you feel comfortable and which areas you may need extra practice and learning support, then make a plan to get help with those pieces.
  4. Take Practice Tests: Practice tests help you identify areas of weakness and focus your study time. Taking between 3 and 5 practice tests can help you become more familiar with all aspects of the test. Huntington provides practice tests as part of our test prep program
  5. Get Enough Sleep: Make sure you get enough sleep the night before the test. A good night’s sleep will help you stay focused and alert during the test.
  6. Eat a Healthy Breakfast: Eating a healthy breakfast will give you the energy you need to stay aware and sharp during the test.
  7. Be Punctual: Know exactly where the test will be taken. Arrive at the test location 30 minutes before it starts to give yourself time to relax and get settled.
  8. Have Everything Needed Ready Ahead of Time: Make sure you have your identification, test admission confirmation, a watch, the same calculator you practiced with and most importantly, confidence!
  9. Save These Links: These links will help you stay up-to-date with changes to tests and general exam updates.
  10. Stay Positive: Believe in yourself and stay positive throughout the exam process. To calm any nerves as you begin the test, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that you have studied and are prepared!
